About Laura
I talk often regarding what I saw as my failure to return to a high level of fitness after my daughter was born. I see it now as a lack of education and a space that I can help so many others with through this season of life.
I was still on active duty in the Air Force and in great shape prior to becoming pregnant. I had an ''easy'' pregnancy and was able to continue to do much of what I was doing before. I made what I thought were ''common sense'' modifications, nothing hurt, and progressively deloaded my weights. I assumed very wrongly that postpartum would go just as smoothly.
My delivery did not go as I imagined, as I now know is true for many, if not most, women. My birth injury left me with significant pelvic floor dysfunction, weakness, incontinence and prolapse symptoms. I struggled with how to return to duty and to a high level of fitness quickly, and made things so much worse for myself.
Thankfully a friend recommended me to an incredible pelvic floor physical therapist who got me back on track, as well a wonderful trainer who met me where I was.
I was quite frankly embarrassed that as a physician assistant, I didn't have better knowledge in this area, nor know how to navigate fitness/symptom management/physical therapy referrals, etc etc.
This experience ultimately led me to completing the Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach certification in January 2024, while I was pregnant with my second child. I attended the in-person coaches training in September 2024, and am currently studying for my NSCA CSCS certification.
I want to help military mamas get back to tactical fitness safely, help military spouses navigate the throes of tricare, and help all women in my community get back to whatever their fitness goals may be!
Iād love to work with you!
